Aotearoa New Zealand open banking ecosystem map now live

6 Nov 2024

The first-ever Aotearoa New Zealand Open Banking Ecosystem Map and Report has been unveiled at an industry event in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland last night, Tuesday 5 Nov.

An initiative of Open Finance ANZ, the report provides a snapshot of the open banking and open finance in Aotearoa in 2024 – including current ecosystem participants such as third-party providers and data holders, open banking use cases, and data sources and intermediaries.

The report also includes commentary on the open banking rollout in Aotearoa, the potential for a transition to API-enabled open banking, and the role of the Customer and Product Data Bill in promoting a thriving ecosystem into the future.

Payments NZ is a proud supporter and contributor to the ecosystem map and report, alongside Mastercard, FintechNZ and Fintech Australia.

The full report can be downloaded here.

Open banking industry leaders gathered for the report’s launch in Auckland on 5 November, hosted by Chapman Tripp.

Speaking at the event, Lisa Ibarra, Head of Innovation and Open Banking Lead at Payments NZ said “the API Centre has already operationalised open banking standards management, and we encourage MBIE to ensure the bill is designed to leverage our progress.”

The report’s launch will be followed later this month by Payments NZ’s Open Banking Showcase, being delivered as part of The Point 2024 over 19-20 November.
