There are five guiding principles for To Mātou Haerenga:
- Mana Kotahitanga - Partnership & shared decision making: effectively incorporating Māori perspectives into decision making requires Māori to have an appropriate level of input, influence and access to our decision-making processes.
- Mana Ōrite - Equity: influencing equity across the payments system requires us to understand and meet the needs of underserved communities by re-evaluating structures, processes and policies that could create delamination, and working in partnership with Māori to create environments and experiences that are fair, sustainable, and inclusive.
- Mana Whanaungatanga - Relationships: require investment and maintenance for them to be productive, sustainable and meaningful. Relationships and people are at the heart of what we do.
- Mana Kāwanatanga - Representation and participation: having adequate Māori representation and participation will inform the continual development of this strategy, our policies, and processes to enable effective engagement and input, and provide the foundation for building our capability and capacity to enable a world class payments system for all of Aotearoa. Our membership offerings have strong value propositions and an engaged membership base.
- Mana Rangatiratanga - Stewardship ensures wellbeing and regeneration for current and future generations by allowing the space for self-determination and agency. Systemic long-term thinking is fundamental in providing intergenerational, sustainable and enduring outcomes for Māori.
